Question: In the future could someone build a machine to connect brain cells, therefore 'giving' someone new skills?

  1. In a way, this is already happening. Scientists are investigating ways of connecting machines or robots to body parts that have stopped working properly, this branch of science is called Bionics.
For example, we have cochlear implants, which were invented in AUSTRALIA (!!) that can help deaf people hear.
But, we don’t yet have the ability to hook up to a machine to learn new things as such.

  2. Following what Kristyn said, people have used machines to teach blind people to ‘see’ – these transform an image of the world into signals which the person can sense with other parts of their body, for example their tongue, and the brain learns to transform the signals sent to the tongue, into really basic visual images!! It’s pretty cool!!

  3. I know there are already scientists that are hooking up rat neurons to computers and recently we had one guy’s brain control another guy’s brain playing a video game through electrical stimulation.

So hooking up a brain to a computer to control another brain is possible. And I guess you could learn some motor skills that way (like Kung Fu! lol). Ithink it would take longer than just regular learning though.

Technically, when you learn something from someone you’re already connecting to transfer skills in a way.. not as cool as in’ The Matrix’ though.

  4. There’s certainly a lot of work going on in this area, and there’s huge potential for something like this. It could also, for example, an amputee to control an artificial limb, which would be incredible! There’s a Nobel prize somewhere in this “Brain-Machine Interface” work.

  1. WOW! That is cool! It is a really interesting concept that I am looking forward to following in coming years. THIS IS COOL!
