Talking to scientists

When sessions have been booked by a teacher an instant messenger-style room will be ready on this page. If you don’t see the two chat windows when you get here, you might need to refresh the page, until it appears. It usually opens 5 minutes before your chat is due to start.

On the left is the room for the students. Teachers and moderators will also be in here. On the right will appear the scientists. Just shout if you need help.

Check the time of your live-chat booking!

Remember that all live-chat bookings on the I’m a Scientist calendar are Eastern Standard Time (AEST) – that’s the time in Qld! So make sure that you have got the time of the booking right in your part of the country.

For example, if you booked a chat for 11:00 am AEST (Qld, NSW, Vic, Tas and ACT), that means that it will take place at 10:30 am Central Standard Time (ACST) (SA and NT) and 9:00 am Australian Western Standard Time (ASWT) (WA).

  • Aim your comments at particular people by putting an @ in front of their name, eg: @ModRosie, what’s your favourite colour?
  • Don’t write full sentences in capital letters, its considered shouting and rude.
  • Try not to fill the chat with lines of spam, smiley faces or the same question – the scientists will try to answer your question, just give them a minute!
  • There will be moderators who will kick you from the room if you get disruptive.. And once you’re kicked, you can’t come back.

And finally.. Remember to VOTE – who wins.. You decide!

Always ask a Mod if you need help.
