I would think that imagining things like what will happen in the future is a result of your frontal lobe, which is what makes us who we are – where our personality, and high-level thinking exists. I think that a combination of that, and maybe our memories and sometimes the fear centre of the brain is what we would use to imagine good or bad situations.
