Although it is possible that the brain gets rid of some connections in favor of others. But I’m not sure it’s really competitive.
Well in a way yes. If people become too tired then their brains don’t function very well, but you don’t actually lose your knowledge. It can get harder to learn new things or to remember things, but the memories are still there.
Loss of knowledge usually comes about by diseases like Alzheimer’s that actually kills brain cells.
