Keeping your eye on a steady point. Finding the horizon helps. Ballet dancers do a similar thing when pirouetting, they pick a steady point and focus on it.
Funny how focus (a purely metal thing) can have such a large effect on something so physical, eh? Brains are awesome that way.
Motion sickness is horrible! It occurs when your vestibular system (part of the inner ear, your sense of balance) gets confused with your visual (eye) input and you feel dizzy and nauseous.
Like Josie said, keeping your focus on a fixed point can help, also making sure you’re not dehydrated and chewing also can help!
Some people take medications that stop the nausea (vomiting) centres of the brain from being activated to try and stop motion sickness.
I never get motion sick. I even read while I’m in a car/bus/etc without getting motion sick. Can that make you unhealthy, reading whilst in a moving car/bus/etc?
As long as you’re not driving the car and reading at the same time-go for it 🙂
Some people are just more sensitive to these things than others! I don’t know of any health problems caused by this.
When I read or look out the backseat window in the car I get bad motion sickness, especially on windy roads! The way I stop motion sickness (in the car) is to look out the front windscreen.
