Question: why is area 39 of your brain the last piece to be developed

Keywords: ,

  1. Area 39, or Wernicke’s area is important for language. Damage to this area (and those near it) causes aphasia, which means lack of speech.
This part of the brain is involved in the understanding of speech and language, so if this part is damaged, the person can still talk, but their words won’t make any sense. Because it takes a long time for humans to learn how to speak and develop their language skills, this is probably why it takes so long to be completely developed.
By the way, your brain is still growing and developing up to the age of about 25!

  2. I didn’t know it was, but I’ll go with Kristyn’s answer. It probably also goes for the evolutionary side of things. We haven’t had language for that long, so we developed it later.
