Question: What was different about area 39 in Einstein's brain?

Keywords: ,

  1. Area 39, or Wernicke’s area is important for language. Damage to this area (and those near it) causes aphasia, which means lack of speech.
This part of the brain is involved in the understanding of speech and language, so if this part is damaged, the person can still talk, but their words won’t make any sense.
So, back to Einstein. In this area of his brain, there were more glial cells compared to neurons. Glia are very important cells in the brain, they provide nutritional support to neurons and remove toxins from the brain, keeping our neurons healthy. The are even involved in the way connections are made between neuronal cells.
That is why I am so interested in glia!! There is a nice little connection there between little old me and one of the greatest scientists in history 🙂 🙂
