Question: With Chameleons what adaptation and how do they change to the colour of the surface they are sitting on? Is it a mental ability or is it a part on there skin?

  1. I would say its a mental thing, they would probably sense the colour of the environment and then nerves in the skin would release colour pigments. I don’t know for sure!

  2. I think they would use their senses and vision to see what they are sitting on, and the brain would process this and send messages to the skin to change its colour.

I know that cuttlefish do a similar thing, and they have a lot of their brain devoted to vision, and the brain processes that to cause changes in the pigments in their skin.
