Question: I know you get you eye colour through genetics but how does it get its coulour... as in where from?

  1. Eye colour is caused by pigmentation in the iris, which is the coloured bit of the eye. It also depends on the structure of the iris, which affects how light is reflected, which causes a change in colour, and in the different patterns you see there.

  2. Like Emma says, its pigments in the eye. Things like eye colour are really good for teaching people about genetics because they can teach us about dominance and recessive traits-brown is a dominant colour whereas blue is recessive-you can only have blue eyes if both your parents carry a blue gene and 2 blue eyed parents can only have blue-eyed children.
