Question: I wanted to know if you believe that everyone is on the autism spectrum it's just less prominent in some people? Because my mother works with kids who have austism and she says me and my brother and herself or share traits that are associated with autism though none of us have ever been diagnosed with it so I was always lead to believe that everyone is somewhere on the spectrum just some people are just much less aware and the degree of autism they have is just a very small one.

  1. Great question (and a tough one!). Certainly there are many features of autism that we all have to some extent, from a little to a lot. Take attention to detail for example, something that people with autism often do quite well. We all are capable of paying attention to detail, but some do it better than others. In that sense you could consider it a spectrum that we all sit along.
Having said that, it’s a really controversial area. Some would argue against a spectrum and say that it’s more like an illness. For me, there are many, many different types of autism. Some I would certainly consider an extreme of the “spectrum.” Like everyone, autism or not, this means that there are things that a person does well, and things they don’t do well.
